How do I create my first dynamic QR code?

Sign up for a free Taproo account, click "New QR code" on the dashboard, choose a destination type (URL, vCard, Wi-Fi, hosted page, etc.), enter your content and click Save. Your dynamic short link is created instantly and you can download the code as PNG immediately.

Do I need to install an app to scan a Taproo QR code?

No. Every modern iPhone and Android camera app scans Taproo QR codes natively. No third-party reader, no app install on the visitor's side.

How do I test a QR code before printing?

Accepted Answer

Open the QR detail page in your dashboard, hold your phone camera over the on-screen preview, and confirm it opens the destination. We also recommend printing a test sticker at the final size you'll use in production.

Is there a free plan?

Yes — Taproo Free is free forever and includes 3 dynamic QR pages, unlimited static codes, 500 scans per month, basic analytics and PNG export. No credit card required.

What's the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

Accepted Answer

A static QR code encodes the destination directly into the pattern, so changing it requires reprinting. A dynamic QR code encodes a short Taproo URL that you can re-target at any destination after print, and it tracks scans (count, country, device, referrer).

Can I add my logo to the QR code?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Upload a PNG/SVG logo in the QR designer and Taproo automatically sets a high error-correction level so the code still scans reliably. Contrast warnings appear if your colours risk legibility.

Which export formats are available?

Accepted Answer

PNG, SVG, PDF and EPS, in print-ready resolutions. SVG and EPS are vector and scale to any size without quality loss — recommended for large-format print.

What size should I print my QR code?

Accepted Answer

Rule of thumb: minimum size is scan distance ÷ 10. A QR code scanned from 1 metre should be at least 10 cm × 10 cm. For posters viewed from 5 metres, print at 50 cm × 50 cm or larger.

Why won't my QR code scan?

Accepted Answer

The most common causes are: (1) too small for the viewing distance, (2) low contrast between QR colour and background, (3) printed onto reflective material with glare, or (4) damaged/folded across the code. Test from the final viewing distance before mass-producing.

What does NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 mean?

They are NFC chip variants. NTAG213 holds 144 bytes (great for short URLs), NTAG215 holds 504 bytes (digital business cards), and NTAG216 holds 888 bytes (richer payloads). All three are read by every modern iPhone and Android phone.

Are Taproo NFC tags compatible with iPhone?

Yes. iPhone XS and newer read NFC tags in the background — just hold the top of the phone near the tag and a notification appears. No app required. Older iPhones (7, 8, X) need to open the Camera or NFC Tools app first.

Are NFC tags compatible with Android?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Almost every Android phone manufactured since 2014 has NFC support — usually enabled by default. Just unlock the phone and tap the NFC area (usually the back centre or top) onto the tag. If nothing happens, check that NFC is turned on in Settings.

Can I re-program a Taproo NFC tag?

Tags shipped from our shop point at a dynamic Taproo URL — you change the destination from your dashboard, the physical tag never changes. If you'd rather write a raw URL directly to the chip, our tags ship unlocked so you can write them with any NFC writer app.

How close does the phone need to be?

Typically 1–4 cm. Reading distance depends on the antenna size — keychains and cards work from a couple of centimetres, posters with larger antennas can read from 5 cm or more.

Can I edit a hosted page after publishing?

Yes. Hosted pages live at /p/{your-slug} and you can change content, theme, links and images at any time. The QR code or NFC tag never needs to be reprinted.

Can I use my own theme or colours?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each page type ships with a theme picker (light, dark, gradient, brand colours) and a layout picker. Custom CSS is available on Business plans.

Can I password-protect a hosted page?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on Pro and Business plans. Set a password from the page's Routing & Security settings — visitors will be asked to enter it before the page loads.

What does Taproo track when someone scans a code?

Accepted Answer

Scan count, approximate country (from the edge proxy header), device type (mobile/tablet/desktop), browser family, and HTTP referrer. We do not store the visitor's IP address, do not drop any cookies on them, and do not fingerprint the device.

Is Taproo's scan analytics GDPR compliant?

Yes. We do not store IP addresses or any personal data, we use no advertising cookies on hosted pages, and all data is processed in EU/UK regions. Because no personal data is collected from visitors, no cookie banner is required on /p/ pages.

Can I export my scan data?

Yes. From the Analytics page you can export a CSV of every scan event for any date range. Business plans also expose a public REST API and webhooks (page.scanned).

What are the monthly scan limits?

Free: 500 scans/month. Pro: 25,000 scans/month. Business: unlimited. The counter resets at the start of each calendar month.

Can I schedule a QR code to launch on a specific date?

Yes, on Pro and Business. Set a Starts-at date in the page's Routing & Security settings — before that date the code shows a "coming soon" page, after it the real destination loads.

How does geo-targeting work?

Accepted Answer

Geo-targeting is Business-only. Add country rules (e.g. GB → uk.example.com, US → us.example.com, * → fallback) and Taproo redirects the visitor based on their country, detected from the edge proxy.

Can I use a custom domain for short links?

Coming soon. Custom subdomain support (e.g. qr.yourbrand.com) is on the roadmap for the Business plan. For now, all dynamic QR codes resolve under taproo.com.

Yes. Business workspaces get REST endpoints (create/update/list/delete pages, retrieve analytics) and a page.scanned webhook fired in near real time. Generate API keys from the Workspace → Developer page.

Unused items in original packaging can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Custom-printed items are non-returnable unless faulty.

How do I upgrade or downgrade?

From the Workspace → Billing page. Upgrades are instant and prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep paid features until then.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Cancel from Workspace → Billing — your account stays on the paid plan until the end of the period you've already paid for, then drops to Free.

Where do I find my invoices?

My QR code won't scan — what should I check?

Accepted Answer

Check size for the scan distance (minimum = distance ÷ 10), contrast (dark code on light background works best), no glare from glossy surface, and that the code isn't damaged or folded. Test by holding your phone camera 20 cm away from a printed copy.

My NFC tag won't tap — what should I check?

Accepted Answer

Make sure the phone is unlocked, NFC is enabled in settings (it usually is by default), and you're tapping the NFC antenna area (back centre on most Androids, top edge on iPhones). Some phone cases — especially metal or wallet-style — block NFC.

Visitors see "Page expired" or "Scan limit reached" — why?

Pro/Business pages support optional expiry dates and per-page scan caps. Open the page's Routing & Security settings to remove the limit, or upgrade your plan if you've hit the workspace monthly cap.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in page, click "Forgot password" and enter your email. We'll send a reset link valid for 60 minutes.

I'm not seeing scans in analytics.

Accepted Answer

Scans are logged in near real time but can take a few seconds to appear. If a scan never shows, check that your QR code points to a Taproo dynamic URL (taproo.com/q/...) — static codes aren't tracked because they don't pass through our redirector.
