Wi-Fi QR code generator

# Free Wi-Fi QR code generator
For a cafe, holiday let or small business, Taproo can generate a free static Wi-Fi QR code containing the network credentials so compatible phones can offer to join after a scan. No guest app is required. If the Wi-Fi password changes, generate a new static QR; an editable Taproo web page is a separate option.

## How do you create a Wi-Fi QR code?
Enter the network name (SSID), security type and password, and the generator encodes those credentials in a Wi-Fi QR code. Compatible phones can then scan the code and offer to join the network without the guest typing the password.

- What you needexact SSID (case-sensitive), security type (usually WPA/WPA2) and the password.
- Works nativelymodern iPhones and Android phones can read standard Wi-Fi QR codes with built-in camera or QR features; exact prompts vary by device and OS version.
- Guest networkspoint the code at your guest SSID so visitors never see the main password.
- Hidden networkstick the hidden option or the code won't connect.
- NFC optionNFC is a separate option: Android can support Wi-Fi records, while iPhone users should use the Wi-Fi QR code or a web-link NFC tag.

### Free, no signup, no watermark
Download a clean PNG or SVG Wi-Fi QR code instantly — no account required for the static version.

### WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 + hidden SSIDs
Works with any modern router and supports hidden networks via a single toggle.

### Add an editable page + NFC
Use an editable Taproo Wi-Fi page when you want to update displayed network details without replacing the QR, or add compatible NFC hardware.

## How it works

- 1

### Enter your Wi-Fi details
Type your SSID, password and pick the security type (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 or open). Tick 'hidden network' if your SSID isn't broadcasting.

- 2

### Download the QR code
Get a high-resolution PNG or vector SVG, ready to print on a poster, table card or laminated sign.

- 3

### Stick it where guests need it
Reception, meeting rooms, café tables, holiday-let kitchens. Optional NFC products can open the Wi-Fi page with a tap.

## How a Wi-Fi QR code actually works
A Wi-Fi QR code is just a QR encoding of a tiny text string in the formatWIFI:T:WPA;S:<ssid>;P:<password>;H:false;;— a standard recognised by iOS and Android. When a phone camera reads it, the operating system shows a one-tap prompt: "Join <Network Name>?". The password is never typed, never seen, and never copied to the clipboard.

Because the credentials live inside the QR itself, a printed static code keeps working with no internet connection on your end — guests' phones do the handshake directly with your router. The trade-off: if you change the password, the printed code stops working. An editable Taproo Wi-Fi page offers a different approach: its QR can open a web page showing the current network details. Update the page later and the QR still opens the same page. This is not the same as changing credentials embedded inside a static Wi-Fi QR.

## Where people use them

### Cafés, restaurants and bars
Table talkers and menu cards with a 'Scan for Wi-Fi' corner. Guests connect before the drinks arrive — no staff interruptions.

### Holiday lets and Airbnbs
Laminated welcome card in the kitchen. If the password changes, regenerate a static Wi-Fi QR or update the details shown on an editable Taproo Wi-Fi page.

### Offices and co-working spaces
One sticker per meeting room for the guest VLAN. No more reading 24-character WPA keys out loud over a call.

### Events and pop-ups
A4 print at the entrance for press, vendors and staff. An editable Taproo Wi-Fi page can show updated network details without changing the QR that opens that page.

### Salons, clinics and waiting rooms
Discreet card at reception. Keeps the guest network separate from your booking system.

### Schools and community spaces
Per-room QR for visitor Wi-Fi, with the password rotated termly from one dashboard.

## Troubleshooting: when a Wi-Fi QR doesn't work

- Camera scans the QR but nothing happens. The phone almost certainly doesn't trust the encoded security type. Re-generate with the right WPA/WPA2/WPA3 setting — picking "WPA" when your router is WPA3-only is the most common cause.
- It joins, then drops immediately. Hidden network not flagged. Toggle "Hidden SSID" on and regenerate.
- Special characters in the password. Quotes, semicolons, backslashes and colons need escaping. Our generator handles this automatically — if you hand-built the string elsewhere, regenerate it here.
- Old Android phone (pre-Android 10) won't scan. Use Google Lens or a free QR reader app as a fallback, or print the password as text underneath the code.
- Printed QR looks fuzzy. Print at minimum 2cm × 2cm and download the SVG, not the PNG, for any sign larger than A6.
