## What is a digital business card?
A digital business card is a web page with your name, role, phone, email and links, shared by QR, NFC tap or link. Recipients save you to contacts in one tap and you can edit details later without reprinting.

- How it's sharedscan the QR, send the link, or tap a compatible NFC-capable phone with an NFC card or keyring.
- No app neededNFC support and background-reading behaviour vary by phone model, operating-system version and settings; the printed QR remains the universal fallback.
- Always currentchange your job title once and every card, QR and tap you've already shared updates.
- Save to contactsone button writes a vCard straight into the recipient's phone.
- Costthe hosted card and QR are available on Taproo's free plan; physical-product prices are shown in the live shop and can change.

## Why a Digital Business Card Beats Paper and Static vCard QRs

### Zero App Downloads Required
Permanent URL, downloadable QR, save-to-contacts button — included on every plan.

### Endlessly Update Your vCard Free
Change your role, number or socials and every card already in someone's wallet updates instantly.

### Real-Time Networking Analytics
See every scan in real time and let recipients leave their details in return — straight into your CRM-ready inbox.

## How it works

- 1

### Build your card
Add your name, role, photo, phone, email and social links in the Taproo dashboard. Free, no card details required.

- 2

### Share the QR
Drop it into your email signature, Zoom background, LinkedIn banner or print it on a paper card.

- 3

### Add an NFC business card (optional)
Pair your digital business card with a compatible Taproo NFC card so people can open the same editable page with a tap.

## Make it a physical NFC card
Tap on any phone to share your details — no app, no typing. Same dynamic page, edit anytime.

## How a digital business card works
Your Taproo card is a permanent hosted page at a short URL — for exampletaproo.com/u/alex-jones. That page renders your name, role, photo and links, plus a one-tap Save contact button that downloads a standard.vcf (vCard) file iOS and Android contacts apps already understand.

We generate a QR code that points at the same URL, and (optionally) program that URL onto the NFC chip inside a physical Taproo card. Tap the card on a phone or scan the QR — same page, same save-to-contacts flow, no app required. Update your job title once in the dashboard and every card already in someone's wallet picks up the change next time it's tapped.

## Who actually uses these

### Sales and BD
Tap an NFC card across the table instead of fumbling for paper. Lead-capture form means their details go straight into your CRM, not a stack of business cards on your desk.

### Founders and freelancers
One link in your email signature, LinkedIn 'Contact info', Calendly description and Zoom virtual background. Update your title without redesigning anything.

### Property and estate agents
QR on yard signs, brochures and viewing folders so buyers can save your number in one tap during a viewing.

### Tradespeople
Stick an NFC tag inside the van or on quote folders — customers save you to their contacts on the spot. Beats hoping they keep the paper card.

### Conference and event speakers
QR on your final slide. 200 people in a room can grab your details simultaneously without rushing the stage.

### Recruiters and consultants
One card per market or region. Permanent URLs mean candidates can re-find you months later.

## What you can put on a Taproo card

- Name, pronouns, role and company
- Profile photo and company logo
- Multiple phone numbers (mobile, office, WhatsApp)
- Multiple email addresses
- Website, portfolio and Calendly links
- LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, X, GitHub, YouTube
- Office address with map link
- PDF brochure or media kit
- Lead-capture form (their details, into your inbox)
- Custom call-to-action button (Book a call, Get a quote)

## Static vCard QR vs hosted (dynamic) card

### Static vCard QR
The contact data is encoded in the pattern itself. It works with no internet and nothing to host — but the QR is dense and slower to scan, you are limited to roughly 300–600 usable characters, a photo is out of the question, you get no scan data, and the details are frozen the moment you print. Fine for a one-off conference badge.

### Hosted card (what Taproo builds)
The QR or NFC chip carries only a short URL, so the pattern stays sparse and scans from further away and at sharper angles. The page can hold a photo, video, PDF and booking link, logs every scan, and can be edited after printing. The Save contact button still hands over a full, standards-compliant .vcf.

## Real-world scenarios, end to end

### Trade show stand, three days
Programme a stack of NFC cards to the same page, or give each rep their own. Turn on lead capture so visitors leave their email in return, then filter the scan log by day to see which morning actually converted. Change the CTA button to 'Book a follow-up call' on day three without reprinting anything.

### A new job title mid-print-run
You ordered 500 paper cards last month and just got promoted. With a hosted card you edit TITLE once; every card already handed out resolves to the new page. This is the single most common reason people move off paper.

### Email signature and video calls
Drop the QR into your signature block and your Zoom or Teams background. Anyone on the call can scan it off the screen and save you mid-meeting — no 'I'll send you my details after'.

### Field and trade work
Stick an NFC tag inside the van door or on the quote folder. The customer taps, saves your number and sees your reviews and gallery in the same page. When you change mobile networks, nothing needs re-stickering.

### Estate agency viewings
QR on the board, the brochure and the viewing pack, all pointing at the negotiator handling that street. Reassign the property and repoint the page — the printed collateral stays valid.

### Onboarding a whole team
Team features — one card per employee from a shared template, locked branding, and revoking or reassigning a card the day someone leaves — are coming soon. Today each person can run their own editable Taproo card, which paper can never do.

### Conference speaking slot
Put the QR on your closing slide. A room of 200 can save you simultaneously, and your scan graph tells you exactly how well the talk landed.

### Bilingual and international contacts
vCard 4.0 is UTF-8 native, so accented and non-Latin names save correctly. Store phone numbers in E.164 format and overseas contacts can dial you straight from the saved card.

## Common mistakes that stop cards being saved

- Local phone format instead of E.164 — overseas recipients cannot dial the saved number.
- Only a personal email in EMAIL, so replies land somewhere you do not monitor.
- No PHOTO — the contact is unrecognisable three months after the event.
- Encoding the whole vCard in a static QR, then changing jobs.
- A QR printed under about 2 cm square, or laid over a busy photo with poor contrast.
- No URL back to your site, so the card generates a save but never a visit.
- Missing NOTE context — the recipient forgets where they met you.
